Harmonious “medicine” against stress

by Dr. Michael Bühler

Stress is now public health problem No. 1.
It rings earlier than the alarm clock, lasts longer than any meeting, and costs more than any fireworks display.

High blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety, depression, exhaustion –
the full greatest-hits compilation of a nervous system stuck in permanent alert mode.
In humans. And in animals as well – especially tonight.

The uncomfortable truth:
Part of the solution is surprisingly inexpensive – and sounds remarkably pleasant.

Classical music has been shown to reduce stress hormones, calm the pulse, and increase heart rate variability – precisely what medicine otherwise tries to restore at great expense.
And no: this is not esotericism, but solid psychophysiology.

The real provocation for the healthcare system:
Why do we invest billions in repair medicine,
but almost nothing in prevention without side effects –
except perhaps goosebumps?

More Bach & Co. does not mean fewer hospitals.
But perhaps less burnout, fewer panic attacks, less New Year’s Eve trauma – in humans and animals alike.

In short:
We treat calm as if it were a luxury.
In fact, it is long overdue.

We will stay with this topic and wish everyone a relaxed start to the new year.
