Mozart & Co. – works like melatonin, only more refined

An easy-to-try sleep experiment – no package insert required,
but with surprisingly harmonious side effects
While melatonin, oxazepam, diazepam, zolpidem and zopiclone,
flanked by apps and tea rituals, compete for our attention,
research arrives at a surprisingly simple insight:
Slow classical music has a measurable calming effect on the body:
🔹 physiological stress parameters are significantly reduced
🔹 heart rate and cortisol levels decrease
🔹 cognitive activity (that proverbial restless carousel of thoughts) slows down
(cf. László Harmat et al., 2008; Jesper H. F. Christensen et al., 2015).
Chronobiology refers to this as “vagal activation” – a gentle switch into relaxation mode.
👉 We would say: finally, a quiet mind.
Adagios, sarabandes, or soft piano music synchronize breathing and heartbeat, guiding the brain toward sleep.
Or, more simply:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart accomplishes what would otherwise require a prescription.
Side effects? At most, a touch of goosebumps.
Perhaps we need less sleep tracking –
and more music.
